Info is from 2012! Egyptian visa for most nationalities are for sale at the major airports and land- bordercrossings. You pay around $15,-, stick the visa in your passport and get it stamped at migrations.
Info is van 2012! Egyptische visa zijn voor de meeste nationaliteiten (waaronder Nederland) te koop op de grote luchthavens en bij de belangrijke lands-grensovergangen. Je betaalt ongeveer $15,-, plakt de sticker in je paspoort en zorgt dat het visum bij de douane wordt afgestempeld.

Lying and cheating are our top two annoyances in Egypt. We were approached by salesmen trying to get us to their shops or a friend's taxi by an overwhelming number of tricks. With over a year of travel experience we already knew all of those tricks, so we tried to ignore these men, as usual, but time after time this response was causing a great deal of aggression with them.In Egypt not a single day went by, without even one person trying to cheat on us in order to get our money. Our constant recognition of these actions led to angry and aggressive responses more than once. And in this, Luxor is the worst place, according to us. As an individual traveler it's nearly impossible to walk the streets for (grocery-)shopping.
Liegen en bedriegen staan hoog op onze lijst van irritaties wat Egypte betreft. Dagelijks werden we aangesproken door verkopers die een hele serie trucs open trokken om ons naar hun winkel te krijgen of in de taxi van een vriend. Na meer dan een jaar reizen kenden wij die trucs allemaal al wel en dus gingen we net als altijd in de negeerstand, maar dit wekte bij deze verkopers telkens weer aggressie op.
We hebben in Egypte geen dag meegemaakt dat er niet minstens één persoon ons probeerde te bedonderen met geld. Ook onze opmerkzaamheid op dit gebied leidde meer dan eens tot zeer boze en aggressieve reacties. Luxor spant wat dit betreft de kroon. Je kunt daar als individuele reiziger gewoon niet normaal over straat of normaal je boodschappen doen.
> Highlights
As mentioned we're not very fond of the behavior of the Egyptian people whom you meet as a tourist. This certainly made our stay in this country less fun. Still the sights are really worth to check out and the many antiquities (almost?) made up for everything.In Cairo and its suburbs there's already plenty to see. The Egyptian museum is an amazing collection of treasures. The pyramids of Giza and the older ones in Saqqara and Dashur are a fabulous introduction to the world of faraos, but even the less ancient history is well-representes in Caïro. Like the Ibn Tulun mosque, but also the Bein Al-Qasreen and the Northern Cemetery, all perfect places to admire Islamic architecture.
In Aswan Nubian life is to be experienced at Elephantine Island or by making a feluka ride on the Nile. In this area the prettiest temples of Egypt can be found: Abu Simbel, Kom Ombo and Edfu.
Still not tired of all these temples? In Luxor you can enjoy the Karnak temple. The Valley of the Kings is an absolute must-see too.For all those who wish for some change after all the temples Dahab has great options for snorkling and diving, desert tours to Colored Canyon or Mount Sinaï and a truely relaxing athmosphere.
Zoals gezegd zijn we niet erg te spreken over het gedrag van de Egyptische bevolking waarmee je als toerist te maken krijgt. Dit heeft ons verblijf in dit land zeker minder leuk gemaakt. Toch zijn de bezienswaardigheden zeer de moeite waard en de vele oudheden maaktsen wat dat betreft (bijna?) alles goed.
In Cairo en omgeving is meteen al genoeg moois te zien. Het Egyptisch museum is een geweldige verzameling schatten. De piramides van Giza en de oudere exemplaren in Saqqara en Dashur zijn een fantastische kennismaking met de wereld van de farao's, maar ook de iets recentere geschiedenis is ruim vertegenwoordigd in Caïro. Zo is er de Ibn Tulun moskee, maar ook de Bein Al-Qasreen en de Northern Cemetery, waar de Islamitische bouwkunst te bewonderen valt.
In Aswan is het Nubische leven van dichtbij te zien op Elephantine Island of door het maken van een felukatocht op de Nijl. In de omgeving zijn de mooiste tempels van Egypte te zien: Abu Simbel, Kom Ombo en Edfu.
Ben je nog altijd niet tempelmoe kun je in Luxor genieten van de Karnaktempel. Daarnaast is de Koningsvallei een absolute must-see.
Voor iedereen die nog wel wat anders wil dan oudheden en geschiedenis biedt Dahab mogelijkheden voor duiken en snorkelen, woestijntochten naar de Colored Canyon of Mount Sinaï en een bijzonder relaxte sfeer.
